“Louisville-based artist Russel Hulsey has embarked on a 4-part series titled Verses, an homage through portraiture to some of the world's most famous poets. Both vivid and spontaneous, these works capture the persona of the authors depicted both in likeness and the embodiment of their verse.

Completed in 2008, the first of the series, 19th Century Poets, includes Emily Dickinson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Also on exhibit is the artist's most recent series, The Beat Poets, which features Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Bob Dylan, and Jack Kerouac.”

Verses II “Dictionaries of Light”

Portrait Series of Beat Generation Poets Jack Kerouac, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Bob Dylan, Gary Snyder, and Allen Ginsberg.  Russel has also done another installment in the wall poem series.  Accompanying works include a Jack Kerouac installation in the street in front of the gallery smaller portraits of Ann Waldman and Michael McClure.  You must see this show.
